How APAS Works
Aligned Parts Assembly System (APAS) captures and maintains part orientation throughout manufacturing and assembly processes. The need for additional equipment or labor to re-orient parts during assembly is eliminated. For APAS, carriers enter the mold and plastic connector tabs are molded onto the carrier, thus securing the part to the carriers. The carriers/parts are then taken up onto a spool for storage and transport.
Assembly then becomes a simple operation feeding parts into a machine, trimming the part from the carrier and placing the part directly into the assembly in its proper location.

1. Capture AlignmentUnlike traditional molding processes,
APAS captures the alignment of a part during it’s creation and maintains it throughout subsequent processes. Parts attach to a pair of carriers and are then fed onto a spool. |
2. Secondary OperationsAny secondary operations such as
painting, printing, plating, machining can be performed simply by removing the parts and carrier from the spool, feeding them into the secondary operations equipment, and then feeding them back onto a spool. |
3. Trim and PlaceAt final assembly, the parts and
carrier are fed into a machine that trims the parts from the carrier and places them into the appropriate locations in the assembly. |
